Moses Well is a roadside spring and water stop in Hell’s Glen, Argyll. The well sits along the route to Carrick Castle B839 and is often missed by drivers. The well was created by a coachman in 1885 to provide his horses with fresh water and is named after Moses as it reminds many of the biblical story where Moses striked rock to bring forth water. This historical and scenic site allows you to stop, fill water bottles, make a wish and leave a coin for good luck.
Tinker’s Heart can be found on the roadside near Cairndow. It is made of 25 white glistening quartz pebbles with a 26th placed in the centre. Oral history says it was created to honour tinkers who died in the Battle of Culloden in the 18th century. The monument is situated in a farmer’s field, so please keep the gate shut to avoid the highland coos getting out. Please also keep your dogs on a lead.
